Wilma Jean Scott

Wilma J. Scott passed away at home with her family by her side on March 1, 2018.

She was born in Atlanta, Idaho on October 13, 1934 to William and Gladus Slater Collins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents Claude and Martha Slater and her brother Thomas D. Collins.

She realized early in life, that with a father who worked as a miner and later construction projects for Morrison Knutson, that moving and changing schools was normal. She said that by the time she reached high school, she had lost track of all the schools she had attended. Her freshman and sophomore years found the family in Nunda, New York and her junior year in Boise, Idaho. The summer of 1951 found them in Jackson, California. Their dad asked them to try the schools out for 2 months and if they were not happy he would let them move back to Boise. Wilma enrolled at Jackson High School and on the second day she met Ron Scott. When she informed him that she might not be there very long, he decided to do everything he could to make sure she stayed. So, by the end of the first week, with the help of his friends, she found herself elected President of the Senior Class. By her birthday in October, he had talked her into being his girlfriend. On June 4, 1952, they graduated and later that night he gave her an engagement ring. The next morning, she and her family left for Wyoming, where her dad was working on a project for M-K. They were married on November 6, 1952 in Laramie, Wyoming. This union was blessed with 3 children and for over 65 years they were sweethearts, lovers and best friends.

Wilma remained home to care for the children and her mother until June 1970, when she went to work as a police radio dispatcher in Ada County. She retired in October 1996 after 26 years of service and 4 eye surgeries.
She was a member of the Idaho Retired Law Enforcement Association, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and took part in many Shrine melodramas. Her generous spirit and pleasant personality influenced and enriched the lives of all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Ronald L. Scott. Her children: Claudia Scott, Gary & Sheila Scott, and Kathy and Robert Kuehl. Her grandchildren: Valerie Kuehl, Rachel & Rob Buck and Laura Scott. Her great grandchildren Kaelie Kuehl and Winston Buck. Her sister in laws Karen Collins and Gwen Hubbard and a host of nephews, nieces and devoted friends.

The family will hold a celebration of her life at the El Korah Shrine Temple at 1118 W. Idaho, Boise, Idaho on May 12, 2018 between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00.
