Royce G. Friend, age 84 of Fairview, Michigan, passed away peacefully at The Home at Wellspring Lutheran Services, after suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for several years, on Monday, April 23, 2018.

Royce was born in Oakwood, Ohio on February 8, 1934 to Forest and Margaret (Morris) Friend. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 6. Royce graduated from Quincy High School in Quincy, MI, and from Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. He served on the staff at Camp Barakel for 14 years, where he was in charge of new construction and where he met his wife, Beverly. They were married in 1961. Royce worked for Au Sable Valley Builders for over 30 years where he got his electrical license, and later his electrical contractor license. After retirement, he and his wife did volunteer work in the winter with SIM (formerly the Sudan Interior Mission) in Charlotte, NC; and at their retirement village in Sebring, FL. Royce was a member of the Mio Baptist Church.

Royce is survived by his wife Beverly (Weinberg) Friend; his children: David and Elizabeth (Douglas) Stockwell; his grandchildren: Deborah (Sam) Bragg and Andrew; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Forest & Margaret (Morris) Friend; his sisters: Glenna and Eloise; and his brothers: Vearl, Bernard, Rolland, and William.

Visitation on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 4 – 8PM at the Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI, and also on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 10 AM until Funeral Services at 11 AM at the Mio Baptist Church, Mio, Michigan with Rev. Glynn McMorris and Rev. Douglas Stockwell officiating. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the services. Interment of ashes at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Michigan.

Memorial donations may be made to The Home at Wellspring Lutheran Services or to Quechua Radio-Bolivia, P.O. Box 7900, Charlotte, NC 28241.
