A celebration of Life for Mr. Bill (James Arthur) Watson, 92, of Kilgore will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at 2 pm in the sanctuary of Kilgore Bible Church with Rev. Barry Metz officiating. Mr. Watson completed his earthly journey on Friday, April 20, 2018 surrounded by his family and in the home in which he was born in Kilgore.

Bill was born on February 21, 1926, at home in Kilgore to John Robert and Sue Watson. He was a 1944 graduate of Kilgore High School. Bill dutifully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS New Jersey as a gunner’s mate in the South Pacific during WWII. He felt that serving his country was one of his greatest accomplishments. He was able to go and revisit the USS New Jersey with is family and share many memories with them as they toured the vessel. In 1946 he enrolled in Kilgore College, where he met Earline working in the enrollment office. They married on March 1,1947 and spent the next 71 years making many loving and happy memories. Bill worked as a cattleman, in the oil field, and owned Bill Watson’s Auctioneering Service. His auctioneering and personality allowed him to have a vast knowledge and interest in numerous subjects and especially historical facts. He was a founding member and faithful attendee of Kilgore Bible Church and a lifetime member of the NRA. He always motivated and encouraged others by living a life of service to others and spreading joy with his tremendous sense of humor. His family was the source of his strength and spending time with them was when he was happiest. Being a very loving husband and father, he was his wife’s hero and his daughter’s champion. He will be greatly missed by all of those lives he has touched.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 71 years, Earline of Kilgore; daughter, Gayla Watson Sellers and her husband Kevin of Richardson; grandchildren, Bryan Sellers of Kilgore, Laura Sellers Pace and her husband Calen of Richardson, Jared Sellers and his wife Caitlin of Virginia, Elizabeth Watson of Houston, Maggie Jo Watson- Vodak and her husband Zach of Minneapolis, MN; great-grandchildren, Porter Pace, Campbell Pace, Micah Pace, Lincoln Pace, Grace Sellers, “Baby on the way” Sellers, Hadley Watson and Ryan Vodak. Also, left to carry on his legacy are numerous cousins, colleagues, friends and other loving family members.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents who raised him A.O. and Laura Godfrey and son Bart Watson.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Tina Rainwater and Kim Mullins for their compassionate and excellent care of Bill and Earline during the final days of Bill’s earthly journey.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his name to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Tx, 75701 or Kilgore Bible Church, 3810 County Line Rd, Kilgore, Texas, 75662.
