Jay M. Parker, 86, of Morrill, passed away at his home Sunday, April 22, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place, per his wishes, and a memorial service with family and friends will be held later this summer. He will be inurned at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill at that time.

Jay was born on July 20, 1931 to Harold “H.O.-Abe” Parker and Erma (Hartz) Parker, on their farm nine miles north of Mitchell and delivered by his Grandma Anna (Rauch) Hartz. Jay attended Browns Canyon School and Mitchell High School, graduating with the class of 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Miriam Kittell in April 1952. Three daughters were born to this union: Sherri, Lisa and Francie. They divorced many years later.

Jay was drafted to the Navy and honorably discharged in 1951. He worked at Chester B Brown, now Kelley Bean, for twelve years as a manager of the package room and then started his own business, Jay Parker Grinding, from 1964 to 1990. He then farmed and did custom farm work before retiring. He was a member of Holy Apostles Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge, Morrill Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Star and a Village Board trustee. Jay was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a crossword master. He would say one of his greatest legacies was sharing his love of hunting with his grandsons, Ryan and Colter, and his love of fishing with his son-in-law, George.

Jay is survived by his daughters, Sherri (Kevin) Eddy of South Padre Island, TX, Lisa (George) Hernandez of Morrill and Francie Adams of Gillette, WY; grandchildren, Morgan Eddy, Melina Guerra, Ryan (Jonniece) Hernandez, Tucker Adams and Colter Adams; great grandchildren, Jax and Livia Guerra; nephews, Joel Cawthra and Tim Cawthra; nieces, Jerra Piester, Janelle Anderson, Jodi Parker and Leslie Parker; cousin, Sue Stout; brother, Hal (Peg) Parker; sister in law, Pat Parker; and special friends, Carl Peterson, Henry Huber, Jon Wurdeman, Steve Huckfelt and Steve Dolberg.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Cawthra Cole; brother, Jerry Parker; and his fuzzy kids, Freckles, Patches and BJ.
