David W. Bryan, age 74, of Sweetwater, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018. David grew up in Etowah and graduated from Etowah High School in 1960, where he served as the Senior Class President. He then attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Business in 1964.
He was a member of the Sweetwater Utility Board where he served as the chairman for many years. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sweetwater. David was a very active member of the eight state Burley Auction Warehouse Association and became the first President of this tobacco council from the state of Tennessee.
He was a prominent businessman and entrepreneur – most recently owned 68 Wine and Spirits. He dedicated decades of his life as a manager of the Farmer’s Burley Cooperative. He took great pride in representing area farmers and tobacco companies. He had a passion for helping many area young adults find and hold employment with the warehouse and was a professional mentor to many people. His work ethic was simply impeccable.
He was preceded in death by: his parents: Arthur Roscoe and Aileen Crittendon Bryan; brothers: Gary and Larry Bryan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years: Brenda Tallent Bryan; two daughters: Angie Bryan McJunkins (Rick), Amy Bryan Bibee (Rodney); grandchildren: Coleman Alexander McJunkins, Ivy Camille McJunkins and fiancé Landon Rhyne Disney, Lucas Bryan Bibee, Hannah Elizabeth Bibee; great grandson: Ledger Bryan Disney; sister and sisters-in-law: Jayne Dunkle (Stanley), Lorene Bryan, Paulette Bryan; brother-in-law: Dick Tallent (Suzie); several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Kyker Funeral Homes on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. with the funeral service to follow in the Chapel at 6:30 P.M., with Rev. Ron Fisher, Rev. Bryan Dunkle, and Rev. Bo Dunkle officiating. Interment will take place on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. in the West View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Sweetwater’s 2018 Capital Campaign. Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater in charge of arrangements.
