AYDEN, N.C.- Mrs. Doris Broadhurst Tyson, 93, entered the arms of her Heavenly Father on April 21, 2018 at her home in Ayden, North Carolina. Doris was born on August 22, 1924 to E.W. Broadhurst and Nettie Spence Broadhurst in Wayne County, North Carolina. She was the youngest of 7 children.
During her early years, her family lived primarily in eastern North Carolina. Doris graduated from Greenville High School in 1942 and attended Norfolk Business College. She returned to Greenville and worked in the floral business. In 1952, she married French Kermit Tyson, Sr. and moved to rural Pitt County to be a farmer's wife. They had five children. Doris continued to work in the business field, as a bookkeeper and secretary. Doris was a life-long learner, taking courses and classes throughout her life to enrich her knowledge and skills.
She was well known as a loving caregiver to many in her family. In their twilight years, her mother, mother-in-law, husband, and other family members were blessed to have her caring for them. Doris' hobbies included crocheting, fishing, water aerobics, gardening, cooking, and enjoying various cuisines. Above all, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family. She was a member of Winterville Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she gave her family a rich spiritual heritage.
Doris is survived by her four children: Charlie (Diane) Tyson, Nettie (Frank) Evans, Anna (Jim) Britt, Amy (Jeff) Dill and daugther-in-law, Connie Miller. Her ten grandchildren were her pride and joy: John (Lesley) Tyson, Lori (Quentin) Asby, Adam Tyson, Courtney (Glen) Titus, Brenna (Kenneth) Weston, Spence (Suzanne) Evans, Justin Britt (fiancée Tonya Lowe), Ryan (Nicole) Britt, Hannah Dill and Maggie Dill. Her legacy continues through her eleven great-grandchildren: Alan and Bryce Asby, Kaylen and Evan Tyson, Lucy and Caroline Titus, Tyson and Emma Evans, Evren, Kennedy, and Olivia Weston.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, French Kermit Tyson, Sr., son, French Kermit (Kay) Tyson, Jr., as well as her siblings and parents.
A service celebrating Doris' life will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 1 PM at Winterville Baptist Church, 2593 S. Church Street, Winterville, North Carolina. Visitation will immediately follow the service. A private burial will be held at Winterville Cemetery.
