Joe J. Bass, 84, of Palatka, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness.

Joe was born in Pavo, Ga., and was a resident of Palatka for the past 25 years, coming from Avon Park. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, his rank was PFC. during the era of the Korean conflict. He owned and operated Joe Bass Auction Service in Palatka and conducted numerous school board auctions of surplus property. He also owned and operated a scratch and dent grocery store in Interlachen. He had also worked as a locksmith. He enjoyed his work and attending church.

His wife of 23 years, Linda Celeste Bass;
four sons,
Ray Bass and Danny Bass, both of Avon Park,
and Mark Bass and Christopher Bass, both of Palatka;
a stepson and spouse, Clay and Melissa Prescott of East Palatka; two stepdaughters and spouses, Emily and Elliott Ortiz of San Mateo and Erin and Dario Huerta of Palatka;

nine grandchildren, Layton Fox, Landon Fox, Tanner Ortiz, Trey Ortiz, Daniel Ortiz, Cassidy Prescott, Dominic Huerta, Abigail Huerta and Ashton Huerta; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Abie Williams.

Joe's life will be celebrated 4 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at Peniel Baptist Church with Dr. Benny Reynolds officiating. Burial in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with military honors bestowed by the U.S. Air Force will be on May 21,2018.
