Virgil Ray Melton age 71 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 at his home.

Virgil was born in Carroll County, Virginia on July 5, 1946 to Glenn and Ethelene Farmer Melton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Geneva Quesinberry; brothers Dyer, Harley, Joe, Carroll “Repeat”, Kenneth and Dale Melton; step-daughter Roxanne Hensdell; step-daughter-in-law Tina Clontz Hensdell; mother-in-law Edna Warf Waller; brothers-in-law Gene Hill and Bobby Waller.

He proudly served his country in the US Army.

He is survived by his wife Sue Waller Melton of Galax, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Ray and Jan Melton of Low Gap, North Carolina; step-son Robby Hensdell of Galax, Virginia; granddaughter and husband Jessica and Jesse Lowry; great-granddaughter Maci Jo Lowry; sisters and brothers-in-law Juanita and Freddie Weddle; Marie and Howard Dalton all of Galax, Virginia; Reva and Norman Nester of Woodlawn, Virginia; Faye and Jerry Snavely of Austinville, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law Herman “Pete” and Shirley Melton of Woodlawn, Virginia; special nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and husband Kathleen Waller; Helen Melton; Pat Hill; Gail and Johnny Williams; brother-in-law Larry Quisenberry; special friends The Harmon’s Family; church families at Midway Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Midway Baptist Church with Pastor Myron Dalton and Pastor Garry Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Melton Cemetery with Military Rites by the Hillsville VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
