Kathryn Ann Vodraska was born August 8, 1940, in rural Pocahontas County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Louis and Evelyn (Kelsey) Vodraska. She graduated from Mallard High School. Kathy met Jim Fitzgerald from Varina. They married two years later on August 8, 1959 in Mallard. The couple settled in Pocahontas, raising two sons, Randy and Rod. Kathy worked for Pocahontas Community Schools as a bus driver. She retired in 1991, after 20 years of service. Kathy enjoyed wintering in Texas, being camp host at the Storm Lake Campground and at the Pocahontas City Park.
Kathy was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church and Catholic Ladies Society. She enjoyed her Monday morning coffee clubs. She especially loved camping with Jim, in their motor home, around the area and she loved the time she spent with her family, grandkids and nieces & nephews.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Fitzgerald of Pocahontas; sons, Randy (Joan) Fitzgerald of Lone Rock and Rod (Kate) Fitzgerald of Cherokee; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry Vodraska; Tom Vodraska; Bernadine Reis; Joe Vodraska and Patty Jensen; in-laws, Pat Weishaar and Jack & Norma Fitzgerald and many nieces & nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marcy McCord; brother, Francis Vodraska and an infant great-grandson, Luke Michael Fraser.
