Tony "Goodguy" Childers, born May 27, 1965, passed peacefully January 27, 2016 surrounded by family and friends.

His kindness and generosity was an inspiration to others. Tony was from humble beginnings, growing up learning the value of hard work and perseverance. An avid softball player and youth coach, Tony enjoyed watching others learn from him about the things he so loved.

Beginning his passion early, by working on wells with his father-in-law, the late Paul Pasour, he was a devoted asset to The City of Gastonia Water Treatment Plant for 15 years. Tony loved making people happy and was extremely devoted to his wife and children. He loved music, movies, and books of all kinds.

Tony was a native of Gaston County and the son of Bobbie Joan Townsend and the late Albert Leon Childers.

Survivors include wife Lisa Pasour Childers of Dallas; daughter Katie Childers; son Jonathan Childers; sisters Wendy Necessary, Sandy Clark, and Laura Haney; brothers Scott Childers and Bo Childers; nieces Alex Garland and Angel Necessary.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister Lorrie Dawn Childers, Grandmother Mary Neil Townsend and Grandfather William Townsend Sr.

A celebration of life service will be held 3 pm on Sunday at the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd., Gastonia.

The family will receive friends 6-9 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
