The company received a tremendous boost during the Spanish-American War when the US government purchased canned evaporated milk for its troops. By 1921, Louis's son John had taken over the company, running it from its new headquarters in St. Louis. The company was renamed the Pet Milk Company in 1923, and later, Pet, Incorporated.
