MADISON, Ind.—Wayne Alden Gilbert, 76, of Madison, Indiana entered this life September 6, 1940, in Greenville, Ohio.

Wayne was the loving son of Glenn and Pauline Trace Gilbert. He was raised in New Westin, and graduated from Ansonia High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Defiance College. He was united in marriage to Roseann Herr, August 24, 1968, at the United Methodist Church in Imlay City, Michigan. This happy union of forty- nine years was blessed with children Tara and Trace.

He worked as a computer programmer most of his working career, and retired in 2002 from IBM. Wayne had taught high school math and physics for three years earlier in life, in Almont, Michigan. Wayne and Roseanne moved to the Madison area in 2001, from Versailles, Kentucky, where they had resided 24 years. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, in downtown Madison, and previously held membership at Versailles United Methodist Church. Wayne enjoyed Sodoku, Fox News, fishing, watching nature and animal shows with his grandchildren and being with his family. Wayne died Friday, August 25, 2017, at 8:30 a.m., at his home near Madison, Indiana.

Wayne will be missed by his living wife of 49 years Roseann Herr Gilbert, of Madison, Indiana; loving daughter Tara Bailey and husband Sam of Mason, Ohio; loving son Trace Gilbert of Madison, Indiana; adoring grandchildren: Lauren, Natalie, Madelyn and Michael; loving sister Carroll Miller and husband Ron of Austin, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: William Herr and wife Hannah of Port Huron, Michigan; Susanne Smith and companion Victor Brulez; Barbara Buchanan and husband Harley of Oxford, Michigan; several nieces; nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by parents Glenn and Pauline Trace Gilbert.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, August 29, 2 p.m., by Rev. Dennis Ingle at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 412 W. Main Street, downtown Madison, Indiana. Interment is Wednesday, 1 p.m., graveside in the Mound Hill Union Cemetery, 533 W. Main Street, Eaton, Ohio. Friends may call Monday 5-7 p.m., at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Indiana and Tuesday, 1 p.m. until the time of service at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 412 W. Main Street, downtown Madison, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of King's Daughters'. Cards are available at the funeral home and the church.
