Sylvia Dunn, of Issaquah, passed away on January 15, 2018 at the age of 93.

Sylvia was born on September 11, 1924 in Seattle WA., to Flora and Moody Boyden. Sylvia was the younger of two girls. She was raised in Seattle and attended Sunnydale Grade School. Sylvia battled asthma as a child which drove the family to move to Arizona for a warmer climate. Her father had difficulty finding work as a machinist so they eventually moved back to Seattle.

Sylvia met her husband James, and was married at 16 on September 22, 1940. At 21, she had their first son. Eventually, they would go on to have a total of four boys and four girls. She converted to Catholicism soon after their marriage.

She was naturally gifted at playing the piano and played best by ear. She wrote songs usually centered around and about her husband and their children. She spent many hours entertaining her family and grandchildren with her music.

Mom was well known to love and include everybody and anybody. She wanted to share the love of her family with anyone. We had traditional family picnics for Easter come rain or shine, usually at Lincoln Park in Fauntleroy. She was famous for inviting homeless or lonely people walking along the water to join our family celebration. She fed them and sat them next to the fire to keep them warm. In typical Mom fashion, she would say "The more the merrier!"

Sylvia also had a passion for gardening and spent countless hours growing flowers, roses, flowering vines, tulips, fruit trees and evergreens. Her inside garden was just as prolific. She served on the Altar Committee at St. Joe's Catholic Church in Issaquah providing flower arrangements. She served many years as an Usher at St. James Cathedral in Seattle.

Sylvia was a dedicated Mother and Grandmother and is survived by her three sons and four daughters, Terry Dunn (Kathy), of Issaquah; Dennis Dunn (Susan), of Auburn; Kevin Dunn, of Maple Valley; Jan Murray (Mike), of Allyn; Gloria Hardy of Renton; Maureen Dunn (Margo), of Kent; Christine Dunn-Tippin (Scott), of North Bend. Mrs. Dunn found great joy and is survived by her 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held 11:00 am Friday, February 2, 2018 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Issaquah. A reception will follow in the church vestibule.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Alzheimer's Association.
