KINGWOOD, TEXAS — Lynn J. Montgomery, 85 died April 19th, 2018 after an extended illness and complications due to Parkinson’s Disease at his home in Kingwood, Texas.

Lynn was a successful and well-respected businessman in the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Alabama area where he owned and operated several storefronts. He was not a stranger to hard work and frequently ran his own businesses while being employed fulltime by the FAA. A tireless man he finally decided after 37 years of service to retire from the United States Transportation Department - Federal Aviation Agency. He started out as an Air Traffic Controller and quickly moved to the position of Supervisor at the Fort Myers, Florida and Birmingham Alabama Flight Service Stations where he was awarded for outstanding performance as an area Supervisor. He served our country as a proud veteran in the Korean War. As a radio controller in the 329th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Wing division of the United States Air Force he frequently flew missions off the Alaska coast.

Lynn loved his dogs and frequently took them to work at his private business. In addition, he was also known to rescue animals off the freeway and in the neighborhood and take them home. He had a very big heart when it came to animals of all kinds. Lynn loved trying to grow things like grapes and roses (and was sometimes successful). His #1 favorite hobby by far was his SPORTS, mainly Alabama football! In his earlier years he enjoyed playing tennis, boating, and fishing. He was also a pretty great bridge player too and competed with his wife Vivian in many tournaments while living in Texas.

Lynn was a loving, caring husband, father, son, and friend. We will miss him dearly. He is in the hands of the Lord now.

Lynn was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Montgomery; parents, Claude and Ida Montgomery; sister, Rebecca Sue Hyde and her husband Odean; sister Edith Johnson and her husband CJ; and brother, Hector Montgomery. He is survived by his children, Gayle Howell and her husband Bill of Kingwood, Texas; Joel Montgomery and his wife Prissy, of Waveland, Mississippi; Gerry Montgomery and his wife Karla of Athens, Alabama ; Kerry Montgomery of Hartselle, Alabama; grandchildren, Brooke Howell, Brittney Howell and William Howell, his wife Emily and their daughter Vivian Sue; Peyton Montgomery and Scott Montgomery, his wife Melissa and their two sons Ridge and River; Jared Montgomery, his wife Denise; Kayla Montgomery Colin, her husband Luis and their son Dominic; and many more extended family.

Graveside Service for Lynn will be held at Roselawn Cemetery , 741 Danville Road S.W., Decatur, Alabama on Tuesday, April 24th, 2018 at 3 p.m. A private family viewing in the chapel will begin at 2 p.m. Pastor Steven Beddingfield of Moulton, Alabama will officiate over service.
