During WWII, he was a lieutenant in the 372nd Field Artillery Battalion (155mm Howitzer), 99th Division, US Army. He was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Bulge. He is briefly mentioned in the book, "The Race for the Rhine Bridges 1940, 1944, 1945" by Alexander McKee.
