Walter Bremond Hector, 94,
Life Long Resident of Manchaca, Texas passed April 21, 2018
Walter was born September 24, 1923 to Jett Hector and Amy Milam Hector. He was the youngest of their eight children: Viola May, Lonnie Brice, Berdie Lee, Belle Jones, William Jett, Louis Bartlett, and Lillie. All preceded him in death.
In 1859, Walter’s great grandfather, James P. Hector II, bought 1009 acres in Manchaca, Texas where Walter was born and grew-up. The property started at the Live Oak Cemetery, ended at Slaughter Creek, and included Onion Creek. Walter loved to tell stories about growing up on the banks of Onion Creek. Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 76 years, Willie Mae Marx Hector. After WWII, Walter and Willie Mae returned to Manchaca and bought 10 acres where Walter loved to play as a boy. In 1947, Walter and his brother-in-law, Ike Marx, built their
lifelong home on their property in Manchaca, Travis County, Texas. They had two daughters.
Their first daughter, Barbara Ann Hector Sullivent, and grandson, Dane Sullivent, preceded Walter in death. Barbara and Truman Sullivent’s family: Darren & Chris, Dane’s wife Karen, Trey & Tanya, and DeAnn, nine grandchildren: Jessica, Justin, Chelsea, Travis, Trevor, Noel, Samantha, Katelynn, and Christopher. Their second daughter, Edith (Edie) Mae Tyler and Robert Bentley Tyler’s family: Jana & Joseph Winkler, Britney & Ali Abedi and five grandchildren: Jett, Jonah, Julia, Ryahn, and Shyon. Walter and Willie Mae, their daughters, six grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren were born in Texas. Their great grandchildren are seventh generation Texans.
Walter was a true cowboy. He cared for three herds of cattle on three different properties until he was 89 years young. He loved to plan family hunting and fishing trips,
watch sports, have coffee with locals at Dan’s in Buda, BUT what Walter loved most of all was thumping watermelons at HEB on Slaughter Lane and Manchaca Road until he found the best melon, invite family over, and cutting open a red ripe watermelon for his family to enjoy.
With heart felt gratitude, we would like to thank the Austin Fire and EMS Station located at 12010 Brodie Lane, St. David’s South Austin Medical Center: Dr. Martin, & 2nd Floor Central Nurses, and Heart to Heart Hospice.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Manchaca Baptist Church, 1215 FM 1626, Manchaca, TX. Service will be 11:30 AM on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery.
