Calvin W. Thomas, 94, of Marietta passed away at 6:45 pm, Friday, April 20, 2018 at Marietta Center. He was born on November 30, 1923, in Newport, Ohio, a son of Hallie Burton and George Thomas.

Calvin served with the U. S. Military for 21 years during World War II and Korea. He received 2 Purple Hearts, 4 Bronze Stars, several Campaign Ribbons and was a recipient of the French Foreign Legion Medal. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a drill instructor at Fort Benning, GA where he received the Commander's Trophy. After retiring from the military, he worked at the Marietta plant of American Cynamid.

He married Francis Casto who preceded him in death. He is survived by 3 brothers: Delmar and Robert Thomas of Marietta and Wayne Thomas of Gettysburg, PA and best friend Karen Seevers and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers and 4 sisters: Harold and Earl Thomas, Dorothy Hesson, Esther Farnsworth, Mabel Hanes and Betty Rawson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (April 24) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with full military service. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4 until 8.
