Ed was in the USAF and served during the Korean war. He also served for a short time as a police officer, then went to work for Boeing, where his career skyrocketed. He joined their Space division where he worked on quite a few confidential projects. He married Mary Adamson and had 4 children with her. They divorced and he later remarried. After retirement, he and his second wife enjoyed traveling and fishing, often combining the two. She was an artist, showing her work in local venues.
