S.G. "Jerry" Stultz, age 97, joined his beloved wife Arlene in death on April 1, 2021, at the VA Hospice. They were married 72 years before her passing in 2017 and were blessed by son Gerald and daughters Patricia and Kathryn, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He was the last survivor of 13 children.
Jerry was a decorated WWII veteran who completed 43 missions over Nazi Germany and Europe before being shot down and imprisoned in Stalag Luft IV in present-day Poland. He and 2 others staged a successful escape from the Death March. He was proud to have later flown on the Berlin Airlift, dropping food to people starving behind the Russian blockade.
After marriage in 1945, Jerry moved his family to Florida to work for Eastern Air Lines for 35 years, serve as commander of the Gulf Coast Chapter of American Ex-Prisoners of War, and serve as a elder in Sunrise Presbyterian Church and Miami Lakes Congregational Church.
Jerry loved golf, airplanes, children, and geography. Having been on 5 continents, he was always eager to know where people were from and to share stories of and lessons from the war. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The internment service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 10:30 am at Vista Memorial Gardens, 14200 NW 57th Avenue, Miami Lakes, Florida 33014.
