Obituary
Joanna Myrtle (Cameron) Sutton, 86, died early Friday, April 13, 2018, in the JourneyCare hospice facility in Woodstock, as a result of complications from dementia.
She was born Sept. 26, 1931, in Chicago, the daughter of Arthur Henry and Myrtle Alma (Bleimehl) Cameron.
She attended Arlington Heights Township High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois, during the 1940s. She would have graduated with the class of 1950, but left early to begin working.
On May 4, 1951, she married Clarence “Bud” Landt, with whom she had three children, Christine, Gary and Craig.
In 1974, she, her then-husband, Antonio S. Marchese, and their two children, Joan and Joseph, moved from Lake Zurich to McHenry, where they lived until her husband died in September 1987.
In late 1993, she moved to Blue Ridge, Georgia, where she lived until her health declined, and she moved back to McHenry in 2014 to live with her daughter Joan.
Over the years, she held a number of jobs, including her first one at Littlefuse Inc. in Chicago. She also worked as a bus driver for McHenry School Districts 15 and 156, and as a cafeteria lunch lady at McHenry East High School until her retirement.
After retirement, the activity that gave her the most joy was her volunteer work with the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Blue Ridge, when she would spend many hours each month helping others learn about the Bible. She remained active in the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Crystal Lake until her death.
She also enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting, watching sports, and taking care of all of God’s creatures great and small. She was happy (and relieved) to see her beloved Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2016.
She was preceded in death by her mother; her father; her stepmother, Grace Cameron; husband Antonio Marchese; a grandson, Jonathan, in infancy; a sister, Dianne Page; two stepsisters, Agnes Boeckenhauer and Lorraine Moehling; and a brother, James Cameron.
She is survived by two daughters, Christine (Tom) Stoner of Plano, and Joan (Tony) Oliver of McHenry; three sons, Gary Landt of Wellman, Iowa, Craig (Stacy) Landt of Diboll, Texas, and Joseph (Stacy) Marchese of Portage, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, Alyssa (Josh) Force, David (Megan) Cutsinger, Jodi (Allen) Wheeler, Abby Flores, Wade Nelson, Preston Landt, Gabriella and Zachary Marchese and Taylor and Trey Sebben; eight great-grandchildren, James and Emma Force, Quinn Cutsinger, Isabelle, Charlotte and Elizabeth Wheeler, and Brayson and Amelia Flores; a sister, Myrtle (David) Helfers; two brothers, Arthur H. Cameron Jr. and Don Cameron; as well as many members of her spiritual family in Blue Ridge and Illinois.
The family would like to thank the staff at JourneyCare Hospice for their diligent and compassionate care, as well as the many members of her congregation who helped with her caregiving while she lived with the Olivers.
A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Crystal Lake Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5303 Terra Cotta Road, Crystal Lake.
Memorials may be made to the JourneyCare Foundation, 2050 Claire Court, Glenview, IL 60025, or online at www.journeycare.org, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, or online at alz.org.
As per her wishes, she has been cremated. Arrangements were handled by the Cremation Society of Illinois in Crystal Lake. For information, call 800-622-8358 or visit www.cremation-society.com.
