Maxine Hales Courtney Robertson, 81 of Winnie, passed away Thursday at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born to George Washington Hales and Savannah Marrs Hales, she spent much of her life in High Island, Texas graduating from high school there in 1942.

She married Joe D. Courtney in September of 1942 and to this union was born two daughters, Pam and Molly.

In August of 1966, she earned a Licensed Vocational Nursing Degree from Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont, Texas. She worked for several years at the local Winnie hospital and also as an office nurse for Dr. Rodriguez.

In 1982 she married Callie Robertson of Beaumont. After his retirement, they moved to Tyler, Texas where they lived for twenty years before returning to Winnie due to Maxine's failing health.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Washington and Vannie Hales; her first husband, J. D. Courtney; her sister Opal Hales Stewart; a half-sister, Amber Lockhart; a half-brother, Edward Prewitt; and twin great-grandsons, Cody and Caleb Lezak.

She was survived by her husband of twenty-five years, Callie N. Robertson; her daughters, Pam Franzen and her husband, Jerry; Molly Copeland and her husband, Jim, a step-daughter, Iva Robertson and a step-son, Kevin Robertson and his wife, Diana. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jakob Franzen, Trini Lezak and her husband, Michael, Jed Franzen and his wife, Jolie, Tray Copeland and his wife, Kristie, Lisa Rodriguez and her husband, David, and Libby Mott and her husband, Jeff; and three- step-grandchildren, Duncan, Callie and Katie Robertson. She was also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, Barrett, Trevor, and Emma Franzen, Ben and Alex Rodriguez, Chandler and Camryn Mott, Justin and Jarred Lezak and Gracie and Audrey Copeland.
