CHAFFEE — Mrs. John Edwin Barber, 89 years old, of Chaffee died early today in a Cape Girardeau hospital where she had been a patient since March 25.
The former Miss Minnie Belle Lawrence married John Edwin Barber of Cardwell on July 4, 1901. Mr. and Mrs. Barber moved to Chaffee in 1905. Mr. Barber died in November, 1934.
Mrs. Barber was a charter member of the First United Methodist Church here, a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and a member of the Chaffee Chapter 48, Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors are a son, Edgar J. Barber, Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Mrs. Everett P. Farmer, DesPeres; a half brother, Elmer Lawrence, St. Charles; five grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
The body is at Bisplinghoff Funeral Home here where Order of Eastern Star will hold a memorial service at 7:30 Tuesday night. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church at 2 Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Richard Combs, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery here.
