Amy Myree Nielsen Maloney
Virgin, Utah – Amy Myree Nielsen Maloney, 87, joined our father on April 19, 2018. She was born March 12, 1931 in Circleville, Utah, the second child of Ada Adelia Nielsen Nielsen and George Anthony Nielsen. She married Ray Nelson Maloney on September 25, 1946. They were blessed with five children.
Amy was a very special person in making her home. She was well known for her cooking and sewing abilities. Her children were very proud of the clothes she made for them. Calvin, "Where is the green hat and vest?"
Amy was as an egg sorter at Graff's Farm in LaVerkin, Utah. She worked at Cooper's Rest Haven in St. George for 15 years, where she became a R.N. Stanley worked with her there for one summer. Later she worked at Dixie Apparel. On the way to work one morning she injured her back in a car accident, forcing her to stay home for a period of time. She then became a cook/supervisor and nutritionist at Zion Care Center in Hurricane, Utah, from which she retired.
Amy held many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; including Primary, Mutual, Boy Scouts, and the Relief Society. She loved doing jobs for humanitarian aid. She kept busy crocheting bandages for the Leprosy Colonies and baby quilts for anyone who needed them.
She had many trials and tribulations in her life. The term "She's a tough ole bird" came from them.
She is survived by her children: LaWanna (Donal) Savage of St. George, George (LaDonna) Maloney of Washington City, Calvin Maloney of Hurricane and Ruth Myree (Larry) Johnston of Brigham City; seven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Maloney; son, Stanley Maloney; parents, George and Ada Nielsen; and oldest brother, Emil Nielsen.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Hurricane Care Center for their loving care and to Sun Tree Hospice Group for making mom's final days so comfortable.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Virgin LDS Chapel, 91 South Mill Road, Virgin, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, prior to services, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Virgin City Cemetery.
