Marshall E. 'Gene' Rogers, age 83, of Morristown, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at his residence. He was a faithful husband and a loving father and grandfather. He was a generous man who had donated more than 100 gallons of blood and at death, donated his body to science. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was also active in the community. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from BASF.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta C. [sic. Ann] Rogers; and parents, Lawrence E. and Kathryn Rogers.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Rogers (Don) Smith of Kingsport, Kathy Rogers (Ernie) Bolger of Morristown, and Larry (Kim) Rogers of Bean Station; grandchildren, Chris (Haven) Smith, David (Anne) Smith, Jennifer Hawkins, and Kenneth Bolger; great-grandchildren, Jenna Smith, Avery Hawkins, and Aiden Ealey; and special care-givers, Zella and Mark Maleitzke, and Courtney.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. David Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church Kitchen Fund.
