Doris Krensky Perkins, age 87, of Plymouth, MA died on April 19th, 2018. Beloved wife of Chester Perkins and devoted mother of Barbara Kaplan(David), Sara Beth Katz (Alan) and Carol Huston (Dave). Doris is survived by 5 grandchildren, Joanna, Michael, Anna, Daniel and Andrew, and predeceased by former beloved husband of 49 years, Edward M. Krensky and her sister, Sara Sures.
Doris leaves behind a capable, caring and loving staff at the Newfield House in Plymouth, where she spent the last four years struggling with Alzheimer’s.
Although Doris was born in Boston, she lived most of her young years in Bethesda and Chevy Chase, Maryland. In 1951, Doris married Edward M. Krensky (met on a blind date in Baltimore). That year, Doris and Edward moved to Plymouth, MA where Edward opened a dental practice which continued for nearly 50 years.
From her beginnings in Plymouth, Doris immersed herself over the next 60-plus years in family, education, teaching, politics, sports and recreation, and then second and third careers.
Doris first returned to school at Boston University where she graduated cum laude in Russian Studies in 1964. She then went on to get a Masters in Teaching from Bridgewater State University.
She taught Civics and World History at Plymouth-Carver High School where she earned a reputation as a dedicated teacher, loved and respected (and sometimes feared) by her students. After four years, Doris chose to spend more time raising her three girls. She left teaching, but continued to be a positive force in her community. Doris was active in Republican politics in the 1970s, serving on the Republican Town Committee and helping set up the Plymouth Young Republicans Club. Doris also served the town as Plymouth Charter Commission Chair and Plymouth-Carver Regional School Committee Chair (guided it through the building of a new middle school). She was a member of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (served as president in 1981-82).
In the next years, Doris explored new careers. She worked for several years at the Men’s & Boy’s Apparel Club, a trade association serving clothing manufacturers. Doris enjoyed her final career as a tour guide - a perfect circle back to her teaching days. She worked as a guide with several tour companies leading tours throughout the East Coast, and accompanied school groups to Washington and NYC. She found her career sweet spot and her tour groups loved her.
During all these years, Doris was an avid athlete and a force to be reckoned with on the golf course and tennis courts. She was ladies champion at the Plymouth Country Club in 1979, and enjoyed years of success in doubles tennis. Doris also loved skiing, boating, and lobstering. She was an active member of the Plymouth Yacht Club and the Eel River Beach Club. She also entertained her many friends with frequent dinner parties (often lobster dinners). Doris loved her dogs - was never without one.
Doris lost her first love, Edward, to cancer in 1999. But she was very lucky to find a second love when she met Chester in 2005. We will all miss her.
Her Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, April 22nd at 9:30 AM at the Vine Hills Cemetery entrance at 102 Samoset St , Exit 6 off Rte 3 in Plymouth, MA. Brunch to follow at 5 Cobbs Hollow in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Residents of Newfield Scholarship Fund.
