Daniel Paul Allen was born on the family farm, on August 21, 1855 a warm summer day. He was the fourth of twelve children born to Robert and Jane Allen. His siblings were Jesse T. Allen, George Allen, Rebecca Allen, Margaret Allen, Sarah Allen, Cansada (aka Kanzada) Allen, Frances "Fannie" Allen, Lafayette F. "Fate" Allen, Lucy Ann Allen, Warren Allen and Robert N. Allen all of whom were born on the family farm near Gainesboro, Jackson County, Tennessee. Daniel lived in Jackson County, Tennessee his entire life never living far from his father's farm and like his father he was a farmer.

Daniel married first Martha Morgan on 17 September 1879 in Jackson County, Tennessee. In the 1880 census her age is given as 18 born in Tennessee. Martha died in Jackson County, Tennessee before June 30, 1887, date of Daniels second marriage. His second marriage was to Jane Terry on 30 June 1887 in Jackson County, Tennessee. Jane was born on 22 August 1872 in Jackson County, Tennessee, the daughter of William Jasper Terry and Prilla Hawkins. Jane died on 12 August 1930 in Jackson County, Tennessee. Daniel died on 27 February 1935 in Jackson County, Tennessee, and both were buried in the Pharris Cemetery, Putnam County, Tennessee.

The two children of Daniel Paul Allen and Martha Morgan are reported to be Mary E. Allen born in Jackson County, Tennessee and Ada Ann Allen, she was born August 18, 1879 in Jackson County, Tennessee and died October 10, 1951 in Williamson County, Tennessee. She married Henry Hickman Dowell on June 23, 1895 in Jackson County, Tennessee. Henry Hickman Dowell (b. 1874 – d. May 23, 1953 in Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee) was the son of Grundy Dowell and Sally Pippin.

All of the children of Daniel Paul Allen & Jane Terry where born in Jackson County, Tennessee. There is one missing child's name from the below list that was born and died before the 1900 census in Jackson County, Tennessee [see child #6].

4. William Cook Allen (b. Mar 1, 1894 – d. Jan 9, 1987 in Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee) md Minerva Mayberry (b. Jan. 17, 1890 – d. October 31, 1979 in Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee) the daughter of John Mayberry and Martha E. Hensley;

5. Thomas "Tom" Dow Allen (b. February 13, 1897 – d. October 18, 1992 in Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee) md on August 18, 1923 in Jackson County, Tennessee Ora P. Hensley. They were married by J.A. Haney J.P. and 2nd he married Canzada Stafford;

6. Unnamed infant Allen, born and died before 1900 census in Jackson County, Tennessee.

7. Rosie Lee Allen (b. Mar. 6, 1899 – d. Nov. 30, 1973 reported to be in Wayne County, Michigan, but she is not found in the Michigan Death Index from the Michigan State Archives, Social Security says she was living in Idaho when she died) md Walter Andrew "Andy" Robinson (b. ? – d. ?)on November 29, 1917 in Jackson County, Tennessee, they were married by A.C. Morgan, M.G.;

8. Henry Hickman Allen (b. January 24, 1902 in Gainesboro, Jackson County, Tennessee – d. July 18, 1984) md Alice Louise Haney on July 18, 1925 in Jackson County, Tennessee. Alice was the daughter of Willis Haney and Parzetta Alexander.

9. Cecil Allen (b. Nov 21, 1904 – d. April 23, 1985 in Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee) md Clora Zell Pippin on February 18, 1932 in Jackson County, Tennessee;

10. Abner Allen (b. Jan. 22, 1906 in Gainesboro, Jackson County, Tennessee – d. Nov 2, 1986 in Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee) md Dona Mai Jackson, on October 5, 1931 in Jackson County, Tennessee. Dona (b. June 29, 1913 in Jackson County, Tennessee – d.
