Susan Gail Thomas Atwood. A Hero's fight is finally won. Today a Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grand Mother, and first Best Friend at last has what she has wanted for so long. Susan Gail Thomas Atwood was born on April 11, 1957 at Quonset Point, Rhode Island and on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 finally has what she most wanted her entire adult life, to be normal, to have peace of mind, to be unafraid, to be like you and I. Susan was 61.
After graduating from Tabb High School in York County, Virginia in 1975, she worked as a Painter and then for Bendix Corporation as a Quality Assurance Inspector and later for Modern Maid Services Inc. She married Donnie Atwood in August 1982 and they were blessed with a daughter Melissa. They divorced in 1991 and he passed in 2013.
Susan was a life-long member of Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church in Yorktown VA., she grew up in the church. Active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF), Youth and Adult Sunday School, and the Church's Nursery. She really appreciated the love and support of the Crooks Family.
Susan loved going to Langley Field Speedway, watching NASCAR races, and her favorite country music star was Alan Jackson. She loved to pass the time drawing, coloring, sketching, painting, or anything that had to do with Art. Susan loved driving her "Smokey and the Bandit" Trans AM and spending time on the water in her Tri-hull GlassPar boat water skiing. She also loved her Morning Glory flowers and watching and feeding the birds on the back patio. The front porch was her haven, where she relaxed with a glass of sweet tea and watched the jets as they passed overhead.
The sweetest, kindest, most gentle and giving person you would ever know. She loved her family and family events. The holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and especially Sunday Suppers were all her favorites. Even though she didn't get a chance to cook that often, she did love cooking a big pot of Chili now and then, after supper she would give the left-overs out as lunches for the next day. Susan was proud of her daughter Melissa and was prouder still as "GaMaw" to Aiden and Arabella.
Susan is our Hero and has inspired us all to be better, and to never give up hope. She struggled every day to be well, to be "normal" like the rest of us and never gave up that fight. No matter how badly she felt she was always concerned about those she loved and wanted to know how we were doing. She always gave of herself everything she could and wanted to make sure that everyone was remembered by her at Christmas and on Birthdays. Susan was a first Best Friend to many. No matter where we moved to growing up, my First Best Friend was already there when we arrived.

Argue and her husband Travis, two Grandchildren, Aiden and Arabella Argue; her Brother Stanley M. Thomas and his wife Clarrissa; her Nephew Dereck B. Thomas and his wife Deborah and her Grand Nephew Ashton Thomas and Grand Nieces Ava and Alexa Thomas.
