C. Maxine H. Daniels transitioned peacefully at her home with her Goddaughter Pamela Carter (Rocky) by her side on Sunday, April 15, 2018.
She is survived by her Goddaughter, Pamela Carter and her family. Mrs. Daniels was 98 at the time of her death and she was the oldest living Zulu Queen (1976) prior to her death. The Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club celebrated Mrs. Daniels a few years ago at a celebration at Lakeside Mall and she was also recognized at the Zulu Ball.
Mrs. Daniels marched with the late Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. in Selma, Alabama. Mrs. Daniels was a civil rights activist, entrepreneur, retired educator and art teacher. In 1995, she was one of five women celebrated and inducted into Louisiana’s Women and Government Hall of Fame. Mrs. Daniels was a proud member of the LA Chapter of The Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Mrs. Daniels was an honorary citizen for The City of New Orleans. In 1996, she received The Louis A. Martinet Legal Society Earl A. Amedee Human Rights Award. She also received the 1st Annual Mayors Medal of Honor Award on May 21, 1995. Mrs. Daniels has numerous awards and accomplishments.
