In 2017 - our YDNA was done for our Almand family.
Our name is not ALMAND/ALMOND or any variations of this name.
We can only trace (with proofs) our family line back to Thomas Almand, Sr. born 1762 who married Annice Ussery.
Familytree DNA support told me that for some reason Irish people changed their names - a lot! There are eight pages of names matching our YDNA. But only four (4) names of Almand variations. At this point we may never find the answer to this. We are mostly Irish - small amount Scotch. Contact me if you are interested in this new discovery.
Our name is not Almand of any spelling. No serious reasearcher for Almand has been able to get past 1760 with "Proofs"
I have seen the familytree YDNA results for Almand.
We are NOT Almand/Almond or any spelling variations of this name.
Out of eight (8) pages of names.... Almon/Almond Almand there are only four (4 listed).
My cousins that have done the familytree YDNA - they are descended from the sons of Thomas and Nancy David Almand:
Daniel Kay Almand who is descended from Peter Bennett Almand. His results ....he is not Almand/Amond, etc.
Joseph Lindsy Almand descended from David Butler Almand. He is not Almand/Almond, etc.
Royce B. Almand descendant from Joseph Hamilton Almand - which is my line..he is not Almand/Almond, etc.

On the first page of the Results there is (1) Almon and (2) Almonds that are 0
genetic Distance. That is as close as you can get.

If you want to discuss this with me.... my personal email is:

All that I post on findagrave has been a labor of love and required many years of research and hard labor. Please, ask before you take my photographs (this is a FAG rule).

PLEASE NOTICE - There is no INITAL on this tombstone for Thomas Almand and NO INITALS found on any documents that have been found regarding Thomas Almand or his father
Thomas Almand, Sr.

I found a page in my research files that was sent to me years ago by a cousin. It was from an Abstract book for Louisa County, Virgina – Deeds 1787-1773. It contained Thomas Almand signing as a witness for a land transaction. The person who published this book didn't correctly transcribe the micro film. They printed: Thos. (A) Almand.

Over the years, others picked this up and made the (A) his middle initial. No one took the time to view the Micro Film of this Deed Book and see what was really there.
Now, we see how this happened. Thomas Almand was using A as his Mark - not an X. The person who transcribed the micro film and published the Abstract book - failed to put that over the A it said : "His" and under the A it said "Mark". And so it the confusion began.

Now, in September 2017 – I have made another great discovery. The Thomas Almand who lived in Louisa County, Virginia is NOT our Thomas Almand. Born 1762, Spotsylvania County, Virginia. The exciting part is that after having the YDNA done with familytree DNA; This is our Almand line. There is a Genetic distance of 0 from Thomas Almand born 1756 in Louisa County, Virginia. This 0 genetic distance is as close as you can get with DNA. The findagrave memorial for this Thomas Almand is: 64076084

The newspaper clipping that was found by me in my paternal grandmother's Bible - Jocie Minnie Dempsey Bennett. It was first published in the Conyers Banner Newspaper, Conyers, Georgia in 1905.

The date for death of Thomas Almand that is in his son - Peter B. Almand's Bible is different than what is on his tombstone. The Bible record states that "Thomas Almand, father of Peter B. died June 29, 1846".
