Aubrey L. Edwards, Jr., age 97, of Louisville, Kentucky, died peacefully on February 1, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 13, 1921, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Aubrey L. and Katherine Beckham Edwards. He attended Louisville Male High School and Transylvania University, where he met his wife of 64 years, Celona "Nono" Bacon. They married in Tampa, Florida, in 1942, while he was training in the United States Army Air Forces. Aubrey served as a B-24 pilot in World War II, and his plane was shot down in a raid over Austria. He was held in a German Prisoner of War Camp for 14 months. He was awarded an Air Medal and Purple Heart for his service and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. He returned to Kentucky after the war ended, worked in the automobile industry and subsequently graduated from the University of Louisville. He has been a member of The Louisville Boat Club since 1955 and a member of Second Presbyterian Church since 1957.

He is survived by: two children, Aubrey L. (Elaine) and Alice (Terry); four grandchildren, Melissa, Sarah, Rob and Taylor; and eight great-grandchildren, Claire, Henry, Colton, Maggie, Lock, Luke, Aubrey and Bode.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, at Second Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends at The Louisville Boat Club on the same day from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. A private graveside service will be held on February 6 at Sharon Cemetery, in Augusta, Kentucky. Aubrey's family wishes to thank the extended family members and friends who have been such an integral part of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Second Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
