Services for Mrs. Bates will be 1 PM Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Saulsbury Baptist Church. Interment will be in Wilson County Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Monday and 9-11 AM Tuesday at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home and from noon until the service Tuesday at the church.

Mrs. Bates, 91, of Lebanon, died Sunday, May 2, 2004 at her home. The Wilson County native was born October 18, 1912 to the late Henry and Daisy Dillard Ashe. The Saulsbury Baptist Church member worked as a Wilson County School Teacher for 26 years, teaching at Commerce, Rock Springs and Tuckers Crossroads. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver R. Bates; and brother, Joseph Ashe. Survivors include: two sons, Denver (Helen) and David Bates, both of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Sonya (Bret) Hampton of Mt. Juliet, Brian Bates and Sherie Owen, both of Nashville and Jared Bates of Lebanon; great granddaughter, Evelyn Marie Hampton of Mt. Juliet; and caregiver and friend, George Vantrease of Lebanon.
