Brian R. Horton, 64, of Washington, IL, passed away at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
Brian was born on March 2, 1954, in Dixon, IL to William “Bill” and Bernice Deets Horton. He married Kimberly Drawyer on June 14, 1980, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Wyoming, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly of Washington; two daughters, Jennifer (Kevin) Lawson of Peoria, IL, and Rebecca (Justin) Baugh of Blue Grass, IA; mother, Bernice Horton of Polo, IL; mother-in-law, Elora Drawyer of Buda, IL; brother-in-law, Timothy Drawyer of Plymouth, IN; two sister-in-laws, June (Edward) Johnson of Mundelein, IL, and Nancy Horton of Palmetto, FL; niece, Stephanie Davis of Ohio, IL; and two great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Horton; brother, Brad Horton; and father-in-law, Howard Drawyer.
Brian graduated from Polo Community High School in 1972 and Western Illinois University in 1975. He taught Industrial Arts at Buda High School and Washington Community High School right out of college. He then went to work at Caterpillar Inc. as a senior systems analyst for 33 years, retiring in 2015.
He was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Washington, IL, and was on their board of trustees for many years.
Brian was a talented woodworker and crafted many wooden items including Christmas ornaments, birdhouses, furniture, decorations, and even participated in a few craft shows. He also made all of the wooden baptismal candleholders for his church. He enjoyed many other things in life including photography, model railroading, drawing, reading, bird watching, and taking many bus trips and family trips with Kim and his daughters. He had an infectious smile and a great sense of humor that will be sorely missed by all.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.
A funeral service for Brian will be held at 10 am on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Washington, with Rev. Thomas Heren officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm Sunday at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, with additional visitation 30 minutes prior to the service at church on Monday. Graveside services will be at 3 pm Monday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon, IL.
