Jimmy began his working career as the head football coach at Grandfield, Oklahoma. Over the next several years he would take a few other coaching jobs around the area. However, in 1976, he left coaching and became the high school principal for Garber High School. Then in 1979, he took the same position at Inola High School, where in served in that capacity for several years. Jimmy then took and held the job of Superintendent until retirement. He later began building homes in the Inola and surrounding areas until his health forced him to retire for a second time. In his spare time Jimmy enjoyed fishing, carpentry work, and watching OU football. However, spending time with his family was his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Peters, and sister, Treva.
