Statesman, 4th Prime Minister of Denmark. He served from 12 December 1854 to 18 October 1856. Prior to becoming prime minister he attended Frederiksborg School and in 1816 earned a law degree. In 1820 he obtained a doctorate. He then entered the legal profession and in 1826 became an assessor in the Supreme Court. In 1830 he became extraordinary professor of Roman law at the University of Copenhagen. In 1834 he was a member of Denmark's National bank executive board. However, he resigned in 1845, when he was made a deputy in the treasury. 1846 he was appointed royal commissioner of provincial estates of the eastern dioceses. Although not a minister, he helped draft a new constitution for the king 28 January 1848. For his work, he was appointed interior minister. From 1851 to 1852 he was minister of education. He was again appointed interior minister and on 12 December 1854 the King of Denmark appointed him Prime Minister. On 18 October 1856 he became a member of the Supreme Court of Denmark and died in office. He is best remembered for his legal expertise and for succeeding in passing a law introducing the constitution for all parts of the country.
