Mrs. Murleen Abbott, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Abbott was born May 1, 1919, in Low Point, Illinois, the daughter of Mearl S. and Eveline Grass Engel, both deceased.

She was married on August 17, 1940, in Springfield, Illinois to JW Abbott, who preceded her in death on December 4, 1998. She attended Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State University at Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. A homemaker, she was employed by the Missouri Department of Social Services for 15 years prior to her retirement in 1983. Murleen was a member of the First United Methodist Church; a member of the United Methodist Women; a member of the Naomi Circle; a member of the Retired Missouri State Employees Assn.; a member of the X-Club; a member of the Red Hat Society; and a member of "The McDollies".

Survivors include: one son, Michael J Abbott and his wife Julie of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter, Pat Ott and her husband Ron of Lake Winnebago, Mo.; one brother, Paul Engel of Lakeville, Minnesota; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Thursday, April 12, 2007, in the Freeman Chapel with Pastor Jason Abbott and the Reverend Daniel Hilty officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Freeman Mortuary from 11:00 until 12:00 noon Thursday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Grace Evangelical Free Church or the First United Methodist Church.
