Athens, Nov 25 - Mark B Loomis, 80, of 308 North Main St, Athens, well known Athens business man and civic leader, died last night at 6:45 in the Robert Packer hospital following a three-week illness. Mr Loomis, proprietor of the M B Loomis Coal Co, was born in Milan in 1869 and spent practically his entire life in Athens. He was treasurer of the Athens Furniture Co, before entering the coal business 45 years ago. One of the oldest businessmen in Athens, he was always active in church and community affairs. A member of the Athens school board for 12 years, Mr Loomis was a director and vice president of the Athens National Bank and served as an official board member and trustee of the Athens Methodist Church for many years. Mr Loomis belonged to Rural Amity Lodge No 70 of Masons and to Diahoga Grange in East Athens. Surviving are a son, Leon E Loomis, a daughter, Mrs Evangeline L Havens, both of Athens; four grandsons, Mark H Loomis, Waynesboro, Va, Edward U Loomis, Gordon W Havens and George L Havens of Athens; two great grandchildren, Carolyn and Sandra Loomis of Athens; three brothers, Henry, Ford and Floyd Loomis of Milan. The body will be taken to the family home tomorrow morning where friends may call until Monday when it will be moved to the Lowery Funeral Home, Main St, Athens. Services will be held Monday with Rev George E Youngs and the Rev W I Andrews officiating. Burial in Tioga Point Cemetery.
