Steve was a US Air Force Veteran who served his country honorably from 1978 – 1995. Steve retired after 17 years of service as a Tech Sargent having received many medals and awards. After his military career Steve went on to work at the VA Medical Center in Huntington. Steve joined Hitchins Gospel Mission after being baptized on Feb. 10, 2018. Steve enjoyed being outdoors and traveling. Steve loved spending time with his grandchildren taking them fishing and swimming.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Hattie Marie Mullins Carter; a daughter, Maria (Tommy) Thompson of Chesapeake, OH; a son, Steven Carter of Huntington, WV; four grandchildren; Nick Thompson, Alex Thompson, Samantha Thompson, and Zac Thompson; three brothers, Kenneth (Chiquita) Carter of Milton, WV, Keith “Mouse” Carter of Huntington, WV, and Gary “Doc” Carter of St. Petersburg, FL; a sister, Peggy (Gary) Garrett of Watkinsville, GA; his fur baby, Sug; and many nieces, nephews and friends who all mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be 11 am Friday April 20, 2018 at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Bro. Joe Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Thursday and after 9 am Friday until the service hour all at the funeral home
