She was born April 16, 1931 in Wake County to the late Everette Arthur Ledford and Edna Buchanan Ledford.
Barbara had a total of 30 years in the education field. She retired in 1992 as the Department Head of Special Programs for East Wake High School.
Funeral service 3:00 pm, Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Clyde's Chapel Baptist Church, 16657 Buffalo Rd, Wendell, 27591. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:45 pm at the church.
Surviving: daughter, Amy Benson (Gary) of Benson; son, Scott Thomas Painter of Wendell; grandchildren: Stephen Painter, Jesse Painter and Joshua Painter; and a great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Painter; and her brother, Everette A. Ledford, Jr..
