Born in Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Johnny A. Butler, Jr. and was also preceded in death by his fiance, Janice White and by a brother, Keith Brackett.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Barbara Jean Brackett Hensley and William D. Hensley; daughter, Kayla Burris; son, Michael Pounders ; sisters, Rosemary Slagle, Sheri Butler, Amanda Singley (Henry), and Kimberly McElrath (John); a brother, Steven Butler; and cousin, Annette Chrisman.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday in the Lake Julian chapel of Groce Funeral Home, 72 Long Shoals Road, Arden, with the Rev. Keith Dockins officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
