Thomas J. McGuire, sr., 834 South Walnut street, a harness dealer in Springfield for many years before the advent of the automobile, died at 7:45 p.m., July 10, 1936, at St. John's hospital. He was 97 years old.

Mr. McGuire was born in Ireland and came to the United States with his parents when a boy.

The family settled in St. Louis where Mr. McGuire worked in a harness shop during the Civil War.

After the close of the war, he came to Springfield and operated a harness shop at 117 North Sixth street. He was located at that address with his business until he retired twenty years ago.

His wife, Rose, died in 1915. Two sons, Thomas J., jr., and Edward, also preceded him in death.

Survivors are one son, John C.; three daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Schermerhorn, Mrs. Arthur F. Graham and Miss Ella F. McGuire, all of Springfield; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
