Mr. John A. Abbott, III, 75, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, in Tradition Medical Center, Port St. Lucie, FL.

Born September 24, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late John A. “Jack” Abbott, Jr. and Carolyn S. (Sharp) Abbott.

Jack graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1960. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Duke University and later went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois.

He and his wife of over 44 years, Lois S. (Stine) Abbott, were married on October 27, 1973 in Waynesboro.

Throughout his life, Jack was employed by Waynesboro Construction, Rust Engineering Company, managed Northhaven Mobile Homes, operated Waynesboro Ice and Cold Storage and along with his sister was the owner of Abbro Realty, which owned various properties in the local area.

He was a member of Otterbein Church, Waynesboro, the Exchange Club of Hagerstown, Eagles, Inc., and Waynesboro Country Club. He was also a member of the former B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731, Waynesboro. Having earned his Eagle Scout Award, he remained involved with and was a dedicated volunteer to Boy Scouts of America throughout his life.

Jack was a loving husband and father who was an avid fan of Duke Basketball and enjoyed flying, traveling, golf, reading and playing in the Wayne Band. He also enjoyed the company of his “grand-dog”, Bella and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John A. Abbott, IV and his companion, Janelle Kendrick, both of Waynesboro and a sister, Diane A. Martin of Greencastle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Emily A. Abbott.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 in Otterbein Church, 801 Park St. Waynesboro, with Pastor Mike Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. Waynesboro and again one hour prior to the service, Thursday morning, in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Otterbein Church Vision 2020, 801 Park St. Waynesboro, PA 17268 or to Mason Dixon Council Boy Scouts of America, 18600 Crestwood Dr., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
