He graduated from Proctor High School in 1971. During his high school years, he worked at Shopper's City and in 1972 joined the Army. He served in Germany until 1975 in the Army/United States Air Force. David returned to Duluth and worked at the Army Air Base as a civilian until 1978. In 1979 he moved to Minneapolis and joined the Active Guard-Reserves and continued his Army career until 2003 when he retired with 28 years of service. In addition to Minneapolis, David was stationed in Omaha, Neb., and St. Louis, Mo.
Dave loved antique car shows, taking care of his yard and his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John.
Dave is survived by his sisters: Linda (Otis "Andy") Anderson, and Gloria (Ron) Whiles; aunt and uncle, Lillian and Donald Amundson; one nephew; five nieces; three great-nieces; three great-nephews.
