Civil War Veteran - Enlisted on July 13, 1863, for 3 years, and mustered on July 18, 1863, into 1st Company, New Hampshire Heavy Artillery (Union). Enlisted Rank: Private. The 1st Company was stationed at Fort Constitution, New Hampshire, Department of the East, July 1863 till May 1864. Unit roster for June 1864 shows sick in hospital since May 6th, 1864. On or about September 15, 1864, the company became Company A, of the First Regiment New Hampshire Volunteer Heavy Artillery. In November 1864, this company was ordered back to the defenses of Portsmouth Harbor. Discharged for disability on January 2, 1865, at Portsmouth Harbor, New Hampshire.
