Dennis Wayne Kirby, age 74, of Kings Creek passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13, 2018. He was born February 4, 1944 to William and Ruth Kirby. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Margie Kirby, and brother Don Kirby.
At the age of 19, Den was involved in a car accident that almost took his life. He was cared for by his mother Ruth, and sisters Margie Kirby and Christine Bowlin for the next 55 years. Den, also called “Den, Den” by some of his loving caregivers, resided at Lenoir Healthcare for 3 ½ years. Despite being unable to speak clearly due to his accident, he had such a big heart and loved hugs from the girls. He could always put a smile on your face with a funny word, expression, or animal noises.
Den loved to eat, especially Diet Sundrop, crackers, ice cream, and moonpies. He could remember names and dates better than any of us, even after suffering brain damage. He enjoyed visits from friends and family, and loved cars, sitting outside, and stuffed animals (especially Sam and Inez). He was a member of Kings Creek Baptist Church.
Den is survived by his sister, Mary Christine Bowlin and her husband Ray Bowlin of Kings Creek, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 19, at Kings Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Randy Goode and Rev. RJ Lovins.
