Halvor Olsen Fladvad was born on Friday, 16 May 1845 in Sunndal, Møre og Romsdal County, Norway, the son of Ole Olsen Fladvad (1804-1893) and Marit Evensdatter (Ottemsøyen) Fladvad (1805-1885), and he was christened at Romfo Kirke in Sunndal on Sunday, 1 June 1845. He emigrated to Germany in 1875 and attended the University of Berlin. He then emigrated to America in 1880 and settled in Steelton, Pennsylvania, then to Camden, New Jersey, and finally Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was married to (Adele) Adelia (Haack) Fladvad (1856-1938), the daughter of William and Luzetta Haack, and they had four daughters: Marie (Fladvad) Bockman (1877-1944), born in Germany; Elizabeth Emilie (Fladvad) Ochsner, born 21 May 1883 and died December 1972; and Eugenia "Jennie"(Fladvad) Potts, born 12 May 1885 and died of puerperal fever on 18 November 1909; and Caroline Fladvad (1889-1909), aka Carolina Fladva. Both Elizabeth and Jennie were christened at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camden, New Jersey on Sunday, 16 September 1888. There was also a son, William C Fladvad (1894-1896), who died at age 1 year and eight months in February 1896. Halvor O Fladvad died at the age of 51 on Thursday, 23 July 1896 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and he was laid to rest at Greenmount Cemetery in Philadelphia on Sunday, 26 July.
