David (Dave) Cantrell, retired in 1984 after 30 years teaching elementary students in Denver Public Schools. He served in the US Navy Amphibious Corps during WWII (South Pacific), then completed undergraduate studies and Master's degree at the University of Denver. A second generation Colorado native, his life was marked by a love of nature, with his happiest times spent hiking and mountain climbing, downhill and cross country skiing with the Colorado Mountain Club. He was an insatiable adventurer, traveling to over 40 countries on 6 continents, and continued to hike the mesas near his home in Golden well into his 80's.
