Samuel Parsons,(Veteran.) Age 25. Residence Croton, nativity Virginia. Enlisted Aug. 23,1861. Mustered Aug. 30, 1861. Taken prisoner May 25, 1863, Pope's Farm, Ark.
Re-enlisted and re-mustered Jan. 1, 1864. Promoted Eighth Corporal May 1, 1864. Mustered out Aug. 9, 1865, Atlanta, Ga. Attended many of the 3rd Cav.s reunions after the Civil War.
His brother Johathan Parsons served at his side throughout the war both mustered out at Atlanta Georgia. George Parsons mustered out at Nashville Tenn. with health problems.
Henry Williams and Anthony Longcor served in the Southern Border Brig. After the war Samuel would marry Mary Abigail Longcor dau. of Anthony Longcor and Mary "Polly" Hughs. Henry Williams would marry Emeline Parsons Sam's sister.
Sam attended each reunion of the Iowa 3rd Cav. The last one in Winterset Iowa with only a hand-full attending.
Awarded the Missouri Medal of Honor.

George W. Parsons Samuel's brother died in Ft. Levenworth Kansas in the Military Hospital, of St. Vidas Dance.
