Sharon Holleman Akers, 74, of Tybee Island, Georgia, passed away Thursday morning, January 18h, 2018.
She was born in Byron, Georgia, to Cliff Holleman and Frances Hudson Holleman and was their youngest child.
In 1961, she married Russell Akers of Byron, Georgia. They were married for 57 years.
Sharon was retired from the Henry County Sheriff's Office with 33 years serving the citizens of Henry County in both Sheriff's Office and Police Department positions. She held the unique distinctions of being the first female deputy in the Henry County Sheriff's Office and the first female superior officer in the Henry County Police Department. She and Russell also served as volunteer leaders of the Henry County Teen Deputies, an organization focused on familiarizing teens with the role of law enforcement.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cliff Holleman, her mother, Frances Hudson Holleman, her sister, Marian Holleman Travis, and her brother, Reggie Holleman. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Russell Akers of Tybee Island, Georgia.
Sharon was a friend to many. She was known for her honesty and her generosity. She will be greatly missed.
On Saturday, February 3, 2018, family will be available for visitation between 1pm and 2pm with a memorial service to follow at 2pm at Cannon-Cleveland Funeral Home in McDonough, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
