Leora Anna Diederichs

Leora Anna Diederichs, born Killdeer, North Dakota, October 23, 1919, died Sheridan, Wyoming October 13, 2017. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Leora was preceded in death by all her siblings: Verena Diederichs Parent, Herb, Esther, Carl, Edmund, James and Ronald. She is survived by her sister-in-law Joanne Diederichs and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leora worked at Pacific Northwest Bell in Seattle, starting out as a long distance operator and working her way to a division manager. She made lifelong friends with whom she traveled to the Yukon by boat, Wyoming to a dude ranch and many visits the the Oregon Coast.

Leora loved sports and had both Seattle Sonics and Seahawks season tickets She was an avid baseball fan as well, call her sister Verena to knowledgeably 'cuss and discuss' calls in the play-offs and World Series games. In their youth, they and their other sister, Esther, watched Moorhead, MN baseball through the slats in the fence when they couldn't afford tickets and were always present at Ladies' Night which was free.

She was part of a prison ministry for years. When one of her nieces was curious about what Leora had in common with the inmates, she received an incredulous look, "Sports, of course!"

Leora had season tickets Seattle Repertory Theater, Seattle Symphony Pops and to the Mt. Angel Abbey Bach Festival, with extra tickets for family and friends.

After her retirement, she moved to Mt. Angel, OR, volunteered in the Abbey Foundation Office and traveled with Abbey groups to Europe and Israel.

Her goals in life were to embody her faith and to make a difference. No one could have done it better. She was a lifelong Catholic, attending daily Mass and praying the rosary. Those of us who had the fun of road trips with Leora experienced not only her delightful sense of humor but what could be the disconcerting timing of her need to say the rosary, sometimes in the middle of a conversation! Her generosity was legendary, never more so than to the young Mt. Angel seminarians from South America and American Samoa who were often very short of funds. She was a fixture at the Burger Time in Mt. Angel, treating them to all-you-can-eat lunches and providing many seminarians with allowances. In return. they invited her to their ordinations which she would travel long distances to attend.

Leora's last years were spent at the Green House in Sheridan, WY.

She will be remembered for her caring, humor, generosity and gentle reminder of the importance of the Life of the Spirit.

Service will be held Monday,

November 6, 11:00 a.m. at St Louise Church, 141 - 156th Ave. SE, Bellevue.

Remembrances may be made to sheridangreenhousliving.org and to Mt. Angel Abbey, One Abbey Drive, St. Benedict, OR 97373.
