Eleanor Morrison Simmons, 89, of O'Neal, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018, in Fernandina Beach. Born July 2, 1928, Simmons was baptized in New Zion Baptist Church and rendered lifelong service at O'Neal Memorial as a Sunday School teacher and clerk.
She attended Florida Normal and in 1950 received her B.S. degree from FAMU. She married Johnnie Simmons in 1953 and began teaching home economics and science in Taylor County, FL. Simmons retired in 1986 from the Nassau County public schools after 32 years. She was co-founder and director of the Rose-Lennie Developmental Learning Center.
A public viewing convenes from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, April 13 at O'Neal Memorial, 474257 SR 200 E, Fernandina. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 14 at the New Zion Baptist Church, 10 S. 10th St., in Fernandina. Huff Funeral Home.
